building a new axis tv server

Hi, anyone know if the axis TV must use the C: directory on the content server. Recently i've been building a new server and have allocated most of the memory to a drive call e:/apps. I just want to make sure the visix shell will know to read and write to this directory after installing the software.

Hi JimB, AxisTV does not have to be installed on the C: drive.  When you install it just change the installation folder to the drive that you want it to run on. I have done that and installed the program on my D: drive and created a program files folder and installed it their and everything works fine.  You also need to have the database installed on the same drive as the visix software, that is what I did and there were no problems.  The only other thing you would have to change to the other drive is the backup files you run to backup the system. In the support folder right click AxisTVBackup.bat and click edit and changeanything that says C: to the drive it is on and do the same thing for the bk.bat file as well.

    Thanks Jason,

I apprecaite your response. I got tired of messsing around with it so i had my server guys rebuild the the server and put all the memory to the C: drive. I had Javier( who is great to work with) gen me new licensses to go along with it since the volumn ID change during re-build. I'm not a server guy i'm an Oracle Developer by trade but had Visix kinda dropped on my lap. I am having a bit of trouble importing all my data from from the other server. I followed Visix instructions in the book for changing the name of the server and all but still had issues when trying to restore from backup taken from another server. Have you had any experience with this?

     Hi Jim,

I have never had to change the content server name but I have restored from a backup before. First Terminate all axistv services through configure device in the start menu visix folder.  Make sure you check and see that all services say they are stopped there is usually 1 or 2 services you have to do manually again to stop them.

Second replace your Binary storage folder, may take some time.

Third,  you have to go into the database manually through the mysql server management studio express click on databases, then right click on AxisTV go to restore, database.  Then a window pops up and click on the options tab on the left and check the box that says Overwrite the existing database.  Then click the general tab click the specify from device tab, browse for the .bak file that visix backups on your drive in the AxisTVBackup folder.  Then click ok and it will restore the database.

Then restart your computer and it should be working.

Sorry for the delayed response I didnt know you wrote back.

The installer will automatically install to C:, but you can choose to install to another directory. When you run the Content services installer, you will be given the option to change the location. Just select the preferred location as the install to directory.
